International Nurses Day

On May 21st, 2025, City University proudly celebrated International Nurses Day, honoring the invaluable contributions of nurses worldwide. The program commenced with the recitation of the Holy Quran, setting a solemn tone for the occasion.

Ms.  Jafaryad Hussain, Head of the Nursing Department, warmly welcomed esteemed guests and highlighted the significance of this day. She noted that International Nurses Day commemorates the birth anniversary of Florence Nightingale, the founder of modern nursing. This year’s theme, “Our Nurses, Our Future: The Economic Power of Care,” underscores the compassion, commitment, and competence that define the nursing profession.

The Chief Guest, Vice Chancellor of City University, addressed the gathering, tracing the noble roots of nursing back to the Islamic era. He cited the exemplary care provided by Rufaida Al-Aslamia, a Muslim nurse, during battles in the early days of Islam. He emphasized that modern nursing has evolved into a comprehensive profession, caring for patients, families, and communities.

The Vice Chancellor stressed the importance of training nurses to meet the evolving healthcare demands and emphasized the crucial role of ethics, professionalism, and discipline in nursing practice. He praised the dedication and expertise of nurses, acknowledging their vital contribution to healthcare systems.

The celebration served as a testament to City University’s commitment to nursing education and its appreciation for the tireless efforts of nurses in promoting health and well-being
